Our Quest to EducateTSHEPANG PROJECT
Children of the Princess Crossing informal settlement have been given a life line at theTshepang Centre where, on a daily basis, they are assisted by a team of trained volunteers. Tshepang aims to promote the survival, holistic growth and development by providing nutrious meals monitoring health and hygiene, providing appropriate counselling, presenting life skills programmes and that the children have access to suitable education. Questek has recently established a library and homework hub at the centre and has become involved at various other levels of the project to create long-term sustainability for the centre. RAILELA SECONDARY SCHOOL In 2009 Questek responded to the needs of a Mapitlula (Tzaneen) based high school by developing developing a computer science laboratory and library as well as upgrading various facilities around the school. With a matric pass rate in 2009 of 63%, the school’s vision is to increase that to a 100% pass rate and Questek continues to support Railela Secondary School in achieving this goal. G.E.E.D.O.P G.E.E.D.O.P is a non-profit organization providing extra numeracy, literacy and life skills lessons and support for a group of Soweto learners still in their foundation phase (Grade 1, 2 and 3). The GEEDOP team of dedicated and committed educators who work on the project address the challenges that these learners face on a daily basis i.e. high failure rate, lack of study resources and the social issues that impact a child’s ability to focus on learning. Through the programme, learners are given the resources to fully understand the basics of the foundation phase which is key to the success of their academic careers. KIDSHAVEN Based in Benoni, the residential centre offers various care programmes that actively engage with children on the streets. Children and their families receive psychological care as well as food, clothing and life skills support. INTERNSHIPS Internships are offered to high-calibre candidates who are studying in fields related to Questek’s core business. These are typically electronic engineering, information technology and software development. Students are registered at University of Johannesburg and Tshwane University of Technology and Questek provides P1 and P2 internships. BURSARIES Bursaries are awarded to students that have achieved academic excellence and demonstrate leadership qualities. Questek provides assistance that will cover tuition fees, prescribed text books per course and examination and exemption fees. |
